Tom May

Life Dedicated to Service,
Serving the East Lake Community since 1973

Thank you for taking time to preview my Bio. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.  My father was a New York City Police Officer; he retired and moved the family to the East Lake community. I finished high school in Tarpon Springs. The new community started a volunteer fire department. At sixteen years of age, I was the youngest member of the department. After high school, I enlisted in the Navy. In 1981, I was hired by East Lake Fire Rescue, after completing my tour of duty in the Navy. Now retired, I have the time needed to dedicate to the East Lake Community again as Fire Commissioner, seat 3 of the East Lake Tarpon Special Fire Control District.

My 34 year career in the fire service showcased my strong qualifications in project management, budgeting, contract negotiation and resource management abilities. Besides an outstanding service record with both the fire department and the United States Navy, my accreditations go
beyond my professional and military careers. My years of contributing to East Lake organizations as well as charitable and social efforts countywide, earned me such accolades as Volunteer of the Year, Fire Officer of the Year and Fire Fighter of the Year.

Besides being passionate about being a firefighter, I was active in community activities as well. I plan on continuing to leverage my reputation and status in the community by focusing on the well-being and safety of the East Lake community. I maintain a strong work ethic and reputation with uncompromising devotion to the Special Fire District organization and community service.

Why We Need TOM MAY on the East Lake Fire Commission

Citizens of East Lake:

When you re-elected me as your Fire Commissioner in 2018, I renewed my promise to serve you, your families, and our business community with care, competence, and compassion. Now, as we approach the 2020 election, where three commission seats need to be filled, I hope that you will join me in voting to elect Tom May to Seat #3.

Tom May’s resume is characterized by service to our country, to our community, and to East Lake Fire Rescue. After serving honorably in the United States Navy, Tom became a member of the East Lake Fire Rescue family, first as a volunteer firefighter and, over the course of 28 years in the department, he advanced to the position of Assistant Fire Chief.

In our community, Tom served as a Coach and Manager in the East Lake Little League as well as the Project Coordinator for the Board of Directors. Tom is a graduate of National-Louis University where he received a B.A. degree in Applied Behavioral Science and was class president and valedictorian.

What the Fire Commission needs is an authentic, tested leader, familiar with fire service operations, and someone committed to ensure that taxpayer dollars are employed prudently and judiciously in the service of our community. From my perspective, Tom May is unquestionably the absolute BEST CANDIDATE to complement our current team of Commissioners and accomplish that mission.

I strongly urge you to continue the great work that our administrative and firefighting teams accomplish each and every day by electing TOM MAY to SEAT #3.

Thank you and many blessings!
